Organised by Leuven MindGate in cooperation with imec
The tactile internet is heralded as the next generation of internet technology, with reaction times in the order of milliseconds. This equals the visual response time of humans, typically around 10 milliseconds.
It will thus enable and drive applications that have much more humanlike reactions, for example in industrial automation, autonomous driving, city transportation systems, health and serious games.
It will combine extremely low latency in combination with high availability, reliability, security and increased network capacity and throughput.
The concept of the tactile internet was first introduced by Gerhard Fettweis, professor of the Technical University Dresden in Germany. It is today foremost associated with the changes needed to adapt the current technology to the requirements of the Internet of Things and the Industry 4.0.
This visionary seminar will address some of the key enabling technologies for the tactile internet. It will be illustrated with two specific use cases: the need for tactile technologies in smart cities and in the automotive industry.
