Centexbel event: Health and Safety related to Textile

Healthy and safe textiles are gradually becoming a hot topic. The consumers as well as the authorities expect that textiles offer an added value in the field of safety and health. In this respect, we may think of protection against UV light, the formation of barriers against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The SARS epidemic has clearly proved that we still have to learn a lot in this domain. For those who want to play along with this trend, health and safety may open new opportunities. Of course, the domain is very complex, but thanks to its continuous efforts, the Belgian and European textile sector are hoping to maintain their market share within a globalizing world trade.
Therefore, Centexbel has organised a seminar in collaboration with Leuven.Inc (Leuven Innovation Networking Circle), a network platform supported by the Catholic University of Leuven. Lecturers from renowned universities and other research centres in Belgium and abroad will disclose subjects entailing opportunities to our industry. At the seminar, the lecturers will explore barrier fabrics in general, the struggle against germs in hospital surroundings, and the possibilities offered by textiles in the treatment of burns. Also the value of the Öko-Tex label in the field of health and safety will be discussed. The recent legislation on biocides (Royal Decree 22/05/2003) will also be considered, because this topic still creates a lot of uncertainty in the textile industry. Finally, textile-related safety on the work-floor and at home will be on the agenda.
