Inspirerend ondernemen in een tech regio

De peer-to-peer economie is niet alleen maar een afdruk van de oude Schumpeteriaanse start-up economie, maar brengt een fundamentele nieuwe dynamiek die soms haaks staat op de verwachtingen van klassieke investeerders. Tijdens deze inleiding kijken we naar een nieuwe dynamiek waarbij de technische en wetenschappelijke kennis de vorm krijgt van een gemeengoed door het gebruik van open licenties, waar de communautaire dynamiek van 'contributies' centraal staat, en waar ondernemerscoalities toegevoegde waarde creëren voor de markt, zonder daarbij het gemeengoed te privatiseren. Tijdens zijn lezing gaat Michel Bauwens dieper in op elementen die essentieel zijn voor het succes van de ondernemer en voor de nieuwe collaboratieve economie. Hij lanceert ook een oproep om nieuwe modellen uit te vinden, waarbij generatieve modellen van eigendom en beheer de plaats innemen van de extractieve modellen.

Michel Bauwens, Founder, Peer-to-Peer Alternatives
Michel Bauwens is the founder of the Foundation for Peer-to-Peer Alternatives and works in collaboration with a global group of researchers in the exploration of peer production, governance, and property. He has co-produced the 3-hour TV documentary Technocalyps with Frank Theys, and co-edited the two-volume book on anthropology of digital society with Salvino Salvaggio. Michel is currently Primavera Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam and external expert at the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (2008, 2012). In Belgium, he published a best-selling interview transcript, with Jean Lievens, 'De Wereld Redden, met peer to peer naar een post-kapitalistische samenleving', which is nearing its third printing after a few weeks (February 2014).

Dirk Loeckx, Co-Founder & CEO, icoMetrix
Dirk Loeckx is an entrepreneur, researcher, biomedical imaging engineer, inventor, and business specialist. He obtained a PhD in Medical Imaging (KULeuven) in 2006 and an MBA (Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School) in 2009. Together with Wim Van Hecke, he founded icoMetrix in 2011. icoMetrix is an imaging biomarker company bringing e.g. brain shrinkage measurements to multiple sclerosis patients. Profile: management, quick learner, broad vision, medical image computing, interaction between research, clinical practice and industry, clinical trials, imaging biomarkers, entrepreneurship.

Dirk Stevens, CEO, Made with Wonders
Dirk Stevens is an entrepreneur who incubates innovative data analysis and visualization software at Made with Wonder.  He started selling at age 9 and programming software as a teenager and never stopped.  After coming of age at Oracle in Belgium and the US he helped a startup company in Virginia grow to 35 people as Media and Technology VP.  Back in Europe he got an MBA at Vlerick and started Estudias and Wondergraphs with which he was the first Belgian company at Seedcamp and learned tough lessons from customers, partners and investors.  This year he’s launching three new products Surveywonders, WonderInterview and TextToExcel.”

Veronique Van de Kerckhove, Managing Director, VeroTech
Veronique Van de Kerckhove is co-founder and Managing Director of VeroTech, a company specialised in project sourcing  for R&D projects. Veronique obtained a Master in Electronics in 2001, she completed this study with a Master in management at UAMS. After several years of working in the industry, she decided in 2010 to establish VeroTech, the community of engineers, which is creating high technology products.

Leen Buelens, Co_Founder and Strategic Partner, Zenjoy
Leen Buelens studied German Philology, followed by a master in Economy & Policy. After a brief detour in teaching, she worked in a non-profit youth organization for 5 years. In that period she started Zenjoy, together with Peter Dedene and Koen Dewit. Zenjoy thrives on the mix between human and exact sciences. They develop their own products and make web & mobile apps. Within Zenjoy Leen mainly focuses on client management, administration and internal operations.

Herman Verrelst, CEO, Cartagenia
Herman Verrelst is an experienced entrepreneur and business manager, with a specific background in the set up and management of high-tech companies and university spin-offs. In the past, he has been CEO, director and business unit manager in a number of software/bioinformatics based ventures, in the areas of gene expression based cancer biomarkers, medical imaging and pre-operative planning software and financial crime and compliance solutions. He received a Master's Degree in Engineering from the K.U.Leuven in 1996 and spent 4 years as a researcher and project coordinator at the same university.

Kin-Chi Chow, Business Developer, Wigoh
Graduated as a Master in Commercial Engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven, Kin-Chi co-founded the Bello-Belgo Foundation (social project in the slums of Caracas,Venezuela) and Sagio.be, the first online non-profit tutoring company in Flanders. Has been working for 2,5 years in the Energy industry before founding his own start-up named Wigoh, a mobile app for local event discovery.

Stephane Berghmans, Innovation Partnerships Manager, TE Connectivity
Stephane Berghmans is innovation partnerships manager at TE Connectivity. He is responsible for setting up outside collaborations with universities, research centres and partner companies. He is also involved in innovation management and the use of social media for innovation.

Claudia Put, CEO, BrandNewHealth
Claudia Put PhD is founder and Managing Director of BrandNewHealth, specialized in large-scale health behaviour change by digital means. She holds a degree in Health psychology (MA) and Medical Sciences (PhD). Broad international work experience (e.g. UZ Leuven & Mass Gen Hospital, Boston) led her to explore from 2006 onwards how the face-to-face process of changing health behaviour could be transposed to a digital environment. Hundreds of thousands of digital health coaching users later, this proved to be a very successful endeavour. Currently, BrandNewHealth prepares an entrance into the international market beyond BeNeLux.

Fried Vancraen, CEO, Materialise
Fried Vancraen began his career in 1985 after receiving a Master of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering. Working as a Research Engineer and Consultant at the Research Institute of the Belgian Metalworking Industry, Fried discovered 3D Printing. Passionate about this new technology and firm in his belief that it could help create a better and healthier world, he founded Materialise in July 1990. Fried holds several patents related to the technical and medical applications of 3D Printing and remains committed to using the technology to make positive changes in people’s lives. In recent years, Fried has been awarded the RTAM/SME Industry Achievement Award, the highest honor in the 3D Printing industry, has been selected as the most influential person in Additive Manufacturing by industry professionals and TCT Magazine, and has been listed one of the 5 leading players in his sector by the Financial Times. He is also the recipient of a 2013 Visionaries! Award from the Museum of Art and Design in New York.
