Transport Phenomena in Electrochemical Processes


From 30 November to 4 December 2009, the world renown von Karman Institute in Belgium (www.vki.ac.be) is the host for a brand new lecture series on Transport Phenomena in Electrochemical Processes.

The objective of this lecture series is to present a state-of-the-art review of on-going activities in electrochemical processes and to outline current research directions.
Introductory lectures on the fundamentals of multiscale transport phenomena, in particular for electrochemical processes, are followed by up-to-date reviews on numerical modelling and experimental results in single and two-phase flows. The role of mass transfer, gas evolution and heat transfer are discussed in depth throughout the program. The lecturers will also give an appraisal of the future challenges and perspectives in the domain.

This lecture series will be presented by world recognized specialists in the field. The setting at the von Karman Institute allows for plenty of time for questions and discussions with the lecturers during lunches and health breaks.

Both Professor Johan Deconinck, chairman of the board of Elsyca, and Dr. Gert Nelissen, Research and Technology development manager at Elsyca, have agreed to participate as lecturers to this advanced lecture program.

Transport Phenomena in Electrochemical Processes

The objective of this Lecture Series on Transport Phenomena in electrochemical systems is to present the state-of-the-art review of on-going activities in Electrochemical processes and to outline current research directions. Introductory lectures on the fundamentals of multi-scale transport phenomena, in particular for electrochemical processes, are followed by up-to-date reviews on numerical modeling and experimental results in single and two-phase flows. The lecturers will also give an appraisal of the future challenges and perspectives in the domain.
The director of the lecture series are Prof. J. Deconinck and Prof. A. Hubin from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. The local coordinator is Jeroen van Beeck of the von Karman Institute (VKI).
