Leuven.Inc seminar: 'The impact and safety of nanofillers in polymers'

This seminar is an organization of Leuven.Inc and part of the project 'Progress in Plastics' of VUB CROSSTALKS

Plastics have become the key drivers of innovation. Whether it is plastics from petrochemicals, biobased plastic or biodegradable plastics, the application areas are boosting: the automotive field, rail, transport, defense and aerospace, medication and healthcare, electronics, telecommunication, building and infrastructure, furniture and tools, etc. And then home based 3D printing has not even started yet! Plastics enhance the quality, comfort and safety of modern lifestyles for people of all income groups. Yet, their impact on the environment and on human health is an important issue.

In a well defined series of directed workshops and from different disciplinary perspectives – industry, topnotch research, policy making, design and art – the project 'Progress in Plastics' wants to zoom in on production and recycling issues, and consider regional and global regulations and best practices with regard to environmental and health safety.
This workshop focuses on ‘the impact and safety of nanofillers in polymers.

Nano fillers and nano additives have a high significance in the plastics industry. This rapidly expanding field is generating many new materials with novel properties for a wide range of applications. This workshop gives a state-of-the-art of nanocomposites.
What are the advantages and challenges for the plastics industry and for future research? What is their effect on recycling?
