Organised by Leuven.Inc in cooperation with imec.
The life sciences have been revolutionized many times through the introduction of new instrumentation. From the first microscopes used by van Leeuwenhoek, to today’s most advanced instrumentation in the form of machines that decipher the human genome. Traditionally, such instrumentation is based on conventional precision manufacturing techniques. Microsystems technology, driven by a very aggressive semiconductor technology manufacturing roadmap, can now be used for the sensing and manipulation of biomolecules, cells and tissue. Since such microsystems allow for orders of magnitude differences in parallelization and sensing/manipulation speeds that could radically speed up discovery and development in the life sciences and enable experiments that were not possible up to now.
The goal of this visionary seminar is to bring together microsystems experts, life science researchers, system integrators, and end users to review the state-of-the-art in microsystems for the life sciences.
