Leuven.Inc Ondernemerscafé 'KLA-Tencor - ICOS Division'

Icos Vision Systems started in 1982 as a spin-off of the KU Leuven and became in 2008 a division of KLA-Tencor Corporation, a leading provider of process control and yield management solutions. This company partners with customers around the world to develop state-of-the-art inspection and metrology technologies. These technologies serve the semiconductor, data storage, LED, photovoltaic, and other related nano-electronics industries. The acquisition of ICOS Vision Systems helped KLA-Tencor to further expand into the semiconductor, solar and LED markets.

To put it in perspective: if the tools of KLA-Tencor were orbiting the planet from 100 miles in space: 35 years ago the tools could see a rooftop in a crowded city, 25 years ago they could see a manhole cover on a street, 15 years ago they could see a quarter, today they can read the date on the quarter.

Three trends drive the semiconductor and related industries today: social, mobile and global. Customers continue to bring their challenges to the sector, and with each node the complexity increases – not only from a technical standpoint, but from an economic one as well.  With more at risk, everyone from industry leaders to those who are struggling to compete, are looking for ways to improve their position in the marketplace.  They all understand the impact that process control has on their business.

Larry Wagner, General Manager of the ICOS Division of KLA-Tencor since 2011, will share with you the company’s history, growth and experiences and the importance of innovation for the future of the company.
