5th EuroIndia Summit


Following the success of the EuroIndia Summits in Halle, Germany (October 2010), Valladolid, Spain (October 2009) and Goa, India (April 2008 and February 2007), the EuroIndia Centre has decided to hold its 5th EuroIndia Summit in Leuven (Belgium), hometown of the oldest university in the Low Countries.

The City of Leuven, The EuroIndia Center, K.U.Leuven University, imec and the Confederation of Indian Industry are proud to invite you to the 5th EuroIndia Summit to be held in Leuven, Belgium, on October 13th and 14th, 2011.

This year's Summit will focus on “Smart, Sustainable and Innovative Cities”. It will provide a unique opportunity for all participants to learn and share best urban practices.

Participants

The Summit will be attended by top leaders of Indian and European cities as well as their parent countries, federating states and regions, bringing to the table their respective visions of urban governance.  Top representatives of leading Indian and European companies, academic & research institutions and NGO's as well as eminent professionals related to the chosen themes will enrich the debate at the Summit.

The Indian federal Minister of Urban Development, Mr. Kamal Nath, is expected to inaugurate the Summit together with the representative of the Belgian and Flemish government, the President of the European Committee of the Regions and the Mayor of Leuven as well as the rector of the K.U.Leuven.

Opportunities

The Summit on Smart, Sustainable & Innovative Cities at Leuven, as well as the preceding Indian Mission to selected European cities is expected to offer the participants unique opportunities:

  1. Leaders and senior officials belonging to national, regional and federating states will get an opportunity to examine how national or regional plans can be effectively dovetailed into innovative city plans.
  2. Civic leaders and municipal officers will get an opportunity to examine multiple city visions with a view to refining their own city vision cum strategy.
  3. European and Indian cities and their stakeholders will get an opportunity to share their best practices in the sphere of urban governance and services in a mutually beneficial atmosphere of learning from each other.
  4. Companies will get an opportunity to showcase their landmark projects with a view to accessing Indian and European markets as well as spawning joint ventures.
  5. Scientists and academicians will get an opportunity to share cutting edge research and development as well as examine how research can lead to setting up of new business ventures.
  6. Urban planners and municipal officers will get an opportunity to highlight innovative aspects of their Master Plans and how implementation has led to inclusive economic growth.
  7. One-to-one meetings will be arranged at the request of participants with companies, civic authorities, research institutions or professionals at Leuven, Brussels, Geneva, Grenoble, Paris or Eindhoven.
