Option demonstrates HSPA+
LEUVEN, Belgium and BARCELONA, Spain - February 16, 2009 - Option N.V. (EURONEXT Brussels: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, proves its readiness for HSPA+, the next phase in the evolution of wireless broadband technology, with a wireless embedded module delivering speeds of up to 11.4 Mbps on the uplink and 42Mbps on the downlink. This uplink performance represents a doubling of the maximum HSUPA performance available today. At the Mobile World Congress, Option is demonstrating an HSPA+ embedded module in an Express Mini-Card form factor.
With the growing popularity of mobile broadband, HSPA operators worldwide are evaluating their network evolution options. The principal strategic choices are either to upgrade directly from HSPA to LTE, which promises a quantum leap in mobile broadband performance from around 2011/12, or to adopt HSPA+ as an interim step.
So far, one operator has commercially launched HSPA+. Thirteen more operators, or about 5% of the world's 3G commercial operators, have committed to similar network upgrades over the coming year to 18 months. To enjoy the performance benefits of HSPA+, users will need to upgrade their datacard, USB modem, wireless router or embedded 3G device.
Option's HSPA+ demonstration in Hall 1, stand 1C 43 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 16-19) confirms that Option is ready to deliver a competitive offering as soon as volume market demand emerges.
