Nemetschek Engineering Group reveals the winners of its International User Contest, edition 2009


Munich, May 4, 2009 - The Nemetschek AG, Europe's largest vendor of software for architects, engineers and the building industry with headquarters in Munich, Germany, has revealed the winners of the Nemetschek Engineering User Contest 2009. The sixth edition is more international than ever; it was open to all users of software from the NemetschekNemetschek Engineering Group reveals the winners of its International User Contest, edition 2009 engineering companies i.e. Scia Engineer, Allplan Engineering, Allplan Precast, Frilo statics and Glaser - isb cad -.

Contest Categories and Participants
Since all customers of the complete Nemetschek Engineering Group could take part, this edition was extended to 7 categories. For CAE the categories are: 'Constructive elements', 'Housing and buildings', 'Civil works', 'Industrial buildings and plants' and finally 'Special projects', for CAD two categories were presented: 'Engineering and buildings' and 'Engineering works and special structures'. In total 122 projects were accepted coming from 16 countries (from all over Europe, South Korea and the Middle East).

Dr. ir. Jean-Pierre Rammant, CEO of Nemetschek Scia and head of the Nemetschek Engineering Group, explains: 'Many of the participating projects illustrate how building information modelling (BIM) and other data exchange possibilities between engineering design and CAD modelling are working in practice.'

The Jury and the Winners
An international jury was constituted out of representatives of the academic and industrial world; they were extremely impressed with the high quality, the diversity and the inventiveness. All projects were evaluated on originality, level of complexity, technical expertise and correct application of the used software.

The winners are:
Cat.1: CSM nv (BE) with 'Vörösmarty Tér 1 Multifunctional Building' in Budapest (HU)
Cat.2: Ney & Partners (BE) with 'Office Building Facelift Umicore' in Hoboken (BE)
Cat.3: Mott MacDonald (CZ) with 'Bridge over Vltava River' in Prague-Troja (CZ)
Cat.4: Iv-Consult (NL) with 'Hard-coal Power Station' in Karlsruhe, Rheinhafen (DE)
Cat.5: BG Ingénieurs Conseils (CH) with 'Shells of the Rolex Learning Centre' in Lausanne (CH)
Cat.6: Vahanen Consulting Engineers (FI) with 'Helsinki Music Hall' in Helsinki (FI)
Cat.7: Tauw (NL) with 'Extension and Renovation of Katwijk pumping station', in Katwijk (NL)

A special prize of the jury went to BESIX (UAE) for the project 'The Tornado Building'
in Doha (Qatar).


The Projects and Contest Book
All 122 participating projects are bundled in a colourful book of nearly 300 pages, explaining in detail the technical challenges and how the users solved these with the help of Nemetschek Engineering Group software. This book offers all participating companies a unique opportunity to show their know-how and professionalism to the outside world. As many as 13,000 copies are printed for free distribution.
