LEUVEN MINDGATE

Leuven.Inc organised international visionary seminars in Cambridge and London

The event has been organised with support from Leuven MindGate, Flanders Investment & Trade and KU Leuven Alumni.

Leuven.Inc in close collaboration with the London Alumni chapter of the Leuven University ( KU Leuven ) organised a first of a series of international visionary seminars, offered to an audience of KU Leuven alumni, researchers and local business people. Theme of the evening at the London Business School was  ‘Changing the Future of Healthcare’, Specifically the potential impact on regenerative medicines by technological developments coming from London and Leuven. This includes the role of micro- and nano-elektronics as well as 3D-printing in future regenerative healthcare applications.

What if electronics can lead to large scale cell cultures, and how is 3D-printing linked with regenerative healthcare ? These and other similar questions were answered from a visionary perspective by dr. Jan Schrooten, (coordinator at RegMed platform Vlaams-Brabant), dr. Peter Mercelis (CSO at 3DSystems en co-founder of LayerWise) and dr. Peter Peumans (Director Health at imec). ‘For over 10 years we organise visionary seminars in Leuven, and due to its success we decided to organise them in a number of focal regions like London-Cambridge’, says Nicole De Smyter, manager  at Leuven.Inc. ‘In the international scene, Leuven has to be positioned much more visibly as a top notch knowledge region’, adds Nicole De Smyter, ‘ and in doing so we desire to have our KU Leuven alumni involved’. ‘We’re glad Leuven.Inc contacted us to jointly launch the first of this series of unique events’, confirms Thomas Verbist, co-organiser working at KU Leuven London Alumni and student at the London Business School. ‘This has been the first activity for our recently created Alumni chapter, and it must be said we couldn’t image a more successful evening, having over 60 attendants!’ During the network reception after the seminar there was plenty of opportunity to have a drink and toast, to meet old friends and to network.
