First vendor-neutral Medical Apps bring smart imaging to the operating room

eSATURNUS releases Medical Apps. They enhance the image on the surgical screen during minimal invasive surgery. The NUCLeUS platform uses the network as a basis for their video management solution. Due to the centralized processing power of the network,it is now possible to modify endoscopic images in such a way surgeons will be able to make clearer decisions.

Since the ‘80s there is an rising complexity ongoing in the operating room. An increasing number of medical imaging devices are finding their way into the high-tech surgical environment.
Therefore, solutions for image management in operating rooms are getting increasingly important. Today, there is innovative technology available that uses the computer network to get central processing power into the operating room. This approach opens up fundamentally new possibilities for real-time image enhancements.

Central processing power can be used to modify images in such a way surgeons are able to make clearer decisions. For instance, the Medical Vascularization App helps identifying vascular patterns. These patterns can give an indication of an unusual density of vascular structures. This area will gain the attention of the surgeon. Another example is stabilization of the endoscopic image. When turning the camera inside the cavity of a patient, the horizon on the surgical displays and in the real world show an offset. This makes it difficult to coordinate hand-eye movement. The Stabilization App keeps the endoscopic movement on the surgical screen stable.
